The mission of Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Foundation is to engage medical students and young investigators in a personalized research experience with preeminent cardiovascular scientists, and to foster the next generation of leaders in the field.
2008-09 Medical Student Research Fellowship Program
The Sarnoff Fellowship Program offers research opportunities for outstanding medical students to explore careers in cardiovascular research. Applicants must be enrolled in accredited U.S. medical schools. Sarnoff Fellows conduct intensive work in a research laboratory, located in the United States, for one year. Prior research experience is not a prerequisite.
What makes Sarnoff unique is our lifetime commitment to the Fellow. A member of our Scientific Committee guides the Fellow during the research year and throughout the Fellow's career. The Fellow interacts with other Fellows, Scholars and Foundation leaders at the Sarnoff Annual Scientific Meetings, Sarnoff-sponsored regional events, and at other scientific conferences.
The online application system for the 2009-10 Sarnoff Fellowship Program will be open in September 2008.

Gabriel Fine (2006-08 Sarnoff Fellow) will be presenting an abstract entitled, "Nanoparticle Labeled CSPS Become Functional Cardiomyocytes" at the Cardiovascular Cell and Gene Therapy Conference IV in April.
Melissa Frey (2007-08 Sarnoff Fellow) will be presenting "WNK1 haplotypes and bevacizumab-induced hypertension" at the American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting May 30 - June 3, 2008 in Chicago.
Paul McKie, MD, (2004-05 Sarnoff Fellow) is a finalist for the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Young Investigators Award.
Rajat Gupta (2005-06 Sarnoff Fellow) co-authored a publication entitled, "The Influence of the Regulatory T Lymphocytes on Atherosclerosis" in the Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology Journal. More information.
James Wisler (2006-07 Sarnoff Fellow) co-authored a paper based on his Sarnoff research which was published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry. Jim will also be presenting a poster based on his Sarnoff research at the 7th Annual Ohio State University Medical Center Research Day on April 10, 2008. His abstract is entitled, "A novel mechanism of beta blocker action: carvedilol stimulates beta-arrestin signaling." More information.
Trisha Scripko (2007-08 Sarnoff Fellow) presented, "From Bench to Bedside: Bio and Medical Ethics in Stem Cell Research," at an event held by Harvard Business School Health Industry Alumni Association. She also received a travel award to present a bioethics poster on stem cells at the First International Human Embryonic Stem Cell Symposium in Evry, France and will be speaking at a stem cell policy forum this March in New York City hosted by Hofstra Law.
Minesh Khatri (2006-07 Sarnoff Fellow) is first author of a publication in the Stroke journal. The publication is entitled, "Chronic Kidney Disease Is Associated With White Matter Hyperintensity Volume — The Northern Manhattan Study (NOMAS)." More information.
Oyere Unuma (2005-06 Sarnoff Fellow) is an author on a manuscript entitled, "Statistical analysis of relative labeled mass spectrometry data from complex samples using ANOVA," in the Journal of Proteome Research. Her contribution to the manuscript was based on her Sarnoff Fellowship research. More Information.
Joshua Schulman-Marcus (2007-08 Sarnoff Fellow) wrote an article entitled, " Cardiovascular disease and global health: an overview of a major neglected disease" on the Lancet Student website. More information.
Serena Tan (2006-07 Sarnoff Fellow) had a first-author manuscript entitled, "Heterotaxy and complex structural heart defects in a mutant mouse model of primary ciliary dyskinesia," accepted in the Journal of Clinical Investigation.
